Merwin Fred Tibbott, 90, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 19, 1934, on a farm near Greeley, to Gordon and Adelia (Kruger) Tibbott. Merwin was raised and educated in the Greeley area and graduated from Greeley High School in 1951.
On April 19, 1956, Merwin was united in marriage to Mary Jeannette Francois at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville. Eight children were born to this union. Merwin was a jack of all trades and master of most. In his younger years he hauled eggs for Hatch Nursery. Merwin and Mary then started farming on a farm near Dundee, then north of Greeley, until 1977, when they moved into Greeley. He also sheared sheep and dehorned cattle for many farmers creating lifelong friendships. Merwin also drove the school bus and gas truck. He and Mary owned and operated M&M Tap and lastly M&M Auction House in Greeley.
Merwin was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. He loved to socialize at many watering holes throughout his travels in his various jobs and hobbies. Merwin would walk in a stranger and leave as a friend. He had a love for fishing on the Barge in Guttenberg and Betty’s Pond and mushroom hunting. Most of all Merwin loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his eight children, Barbara Staton of Edgewood, Dale (Penny) Tibbott of Greeley, James (Shannon Bunnell) Tibbott of Greeley, Ed (Renee) Tibbott of Manchester, Bev (Burdette) Conner of Edgewood, Liz (Chris Wrage) Dean of Edgewood, Larry (Teresa) Tibbott of Delaware, and Joe (Jayne) Tibbott of Edgewood; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret March and Helen Amling; sisters-in-law, Sarah Tibbott, Deidre Tibbott, and Shirley Chesmore; and in-laws, Bob (Ann) Francois, Ray Francois, Ruth Francois, Helen (Lawrence) Schaul, Tom Francois, Irene Fischer, Lorraine Prantner, Frank (Patty) Francois, and Mike (Patsy) Francois; and many nieces and nephews.
Merwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary on June 13, 2009; son-in-law, Bob Dean; four brothers, Donald “Bud” (Lois) Tibbott, Alvin Tibbott, Charles “Butch” Tibbott, and Roger (Frances) Tibbott; brothers-in-law, Ronald March and Gene Amling. He is also preceded in death by his wife’s family; parents-in-law, Clarence (Ida) Francois, Ed (Ruth) Francois, Leo (Lois) Francois, Bill Francois, Dorothy (Laverne) Roling, Dorothy Francois, Pat Francois, and Donald Fisher
The family would like to thank Dr. Christianson and Care Initiatives Hospice for their care of their father and the Greeley First Responders.

Public Prayer Service: Open to public beginning at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Elkport-Garber Community Center in Elkport, Iowa. Immediately following Prayer Service the family will greet friends & family from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m at the Community Center. A public lunch will be held beginning at noon. The family will continue to greet friends during lunch.
