Grant County Hit and Run

Hit & Run Crash-OWI 4th 

On March 26, 2025 at approximately 11:23 a.m., Grant County Dispatch received a report of a hit and run traffic crash on Highway 151, near mile marker 1, in Jamestown Township. The reporting party, Alex Breen, 32, of Dubuque reported he was traveling south in his 2018 Silverado, when he was passed by another vehicle. Breen reported as the vehicle was passing him, it crossed into his lane, sideswiping his vehicle. Breen reported the vehicle did not stop and left the scene heading toward Dubuque.  

The Dubuque Police Department assisted the Grant County Sheriff's Office and located the offending vehicle, a 2004 F150, which had stopped at a business on the other side of the bridge in the City of Dubuque. The driver was identified as Karen Steffen, 62, of Cuba City. As a result of the investigation, Steffen was arrested for operating while intoxicated (4th) in Iowa. Steffen was also issued citations for operating while intoxicated (4th), operating while revoked, hit & run, and unsafe lane deviation, from the crash that occurred in Grant County.
