One Vehicle Rollover
On February 12 at 7:00 AM Logan Braasch, 19 of Beloit, was driving his 2010 Acura sedan south on Hwy 151 just south of Exit 1. While negotiating a right hand curve Braasch's vehicle began to slide on the snow covered roadway. The vehicle slid sideways into the north shoulder and rolled 2 times coming to rest on its roof.
Braasch was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque by Dickeyville EMS for treatment of minor injuries. All air bags deployed during the crash. The vehicle sustained heavy damage was removed from the scene by Donnies Tire and Tow out of Dickeyville.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Grant County Highway Department, Jamestown First Responders, and the Jamestown Fire Department.
SEMI CRASH WITH A HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT SNOW PLOW
On February 12, 2025 at approximately 9:30 A.M., a Grant County Highway Department snow plow was plowing snow in the north bound lanes of Hwy 61 in Liberty Township. The snow plow was a 2019 Western Star, equipped with maintenance lighting, which was activated, The snow plow was in the center lane of the three lane highway. Directly behind the snow plow, were several vehicles, which were also north bound on Hwy 61, including a 2003 Kenworth tractor trailer. The semi driver, Kendon Kropf, 36 of Blue River passed three vehicles in the right lane. After passing the three vehicles, Mr. Kropf passed the snow plow. Mr. Kropf struck the outside passenger side snow plow wing, which was plowing in the north bound "slow lane" of Hwy 61. The rear duals on the trailer struck the outside wing of the snow plow. The snow plow wing received minor damage, along with minor damage to the rear duals on the semi trailer.
No injures were reported and Mr. Kropf was cited for Unsafe Passing on the right. Both vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene.
****The Grant County Sheriff's Office wants to remind drivers; Wisconsin Statute 346.915 states: the operator of any vehicle that is not a snowplow may not follow a snowplow closer than the following distances, if the snowplow is engaged in highway winter maintenance snow and ice removal, as described in sub. (1), and is using lamps described in s. 347.26 (7): Two hundred feet upon any highway having a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour. Seventy-five feet upon any highway having a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less.
One-Vehicle Crash No Injury
On February 13th at approximately 7:45am, the Sheriff's Office received an automated crash alert, which plotted the location of Big Platte Road just south of County Highway B. Deputies responded to that location and found that Weston Shea, age 16 of rural Platteville, was operating a 2008 GMC Yukon northbound on Big Platte Road in Harrison Township. Two 13 year-old juveniles were seated in the second row of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Shea stated as he was driving, the rear-end of the vehicle slid out slightly due to the snow covered, slick roadway. Shea informed the deputy at that point, he intentionally tried to exaggerate the slide to attempt to drive out of it. However, Shea lost control of the vehicle and entered the ditch on the right side of the road. The front driver's side corner of the vehicle struck a tree causing the vehicle to spin around and come to rest on the side of the road.
Airbags deployed as a result of the crash and all occupants were wearing seat belts. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. Shea and the passengers were uninjured.
Shea was issued a citation for Failure to Keep Vehicle Under Control. Precision Automotive out of Platteville assisted at the scene.

Single vehicle rollover
On February 13, 2025 the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to a 1 vehicle rollover on Southwest Rd approximately ½ mile North of USH 151.
Upon arrival, the deputy observed a 2013 Ram 1500 in a field on its drivers side. The driver and only occupant, Margaret Metzen, 19, Platteville, WI was trapped in the vehicle. Metzen advised she was uninjured. With the assistance of the Platteville Fire Department, Metzen was freed from the vehicle. Metzen was assessed by Southwest Health paramedics and transported to Southwest Health in Platteville for further evaluation.
Metzen was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control of Vehicle. Precision Auto of Platteville, WI assisted in removal of the vehicle from the scene.
