Grant County Accidents

Semi Rollover Crash 

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2:50 p.m., The Grant County Sheriff's Office took a report of a single-vehicle crash on County Road K, near Hilldale Road, in the Town of North Lancaster, involving a semi tractor trailer. During the investigation it was determined that 61 year old, Melvin Vize, of Dubuque, was traveling south on County Road K in a 2015 International, pulling an empty cargo trailer. As a result of the high winds, the semi was forced out of southbound lane, into the northbound lane, where it tipped over onto its side. Vize sustained minor injuries, but was not transported to the hospital. Wisconsin State Patrol investigated the crash and were on scene for approximately 3 hours while the 

vehicle was removed by Guys Towing out of Kieler. Assisting at the scene were the Grant County Sheriff's Office, Grant County Highway Department, Lancaster Fire Department, and Lancaster EMS. 


Vehicle Strikes Guardrail Twice, Crashes into Embankment 

On December 6th at approximately 8:41am, the Sheriff's Office was notified of a one-vehicle crash on County Highway D near Bluff Lane in Platteville Township. After investigation, it was found that Raelynn Dock, age 22 of Platteville, was operating a 2003 Subaru SUV southbound on County D. Dock was negotiating a slight left-hand curve when she drifted out of the lane of travel and struck the guardrail on the west side of the road. Dock's vehicle came off of the guardrail and went back into the lane of travel. Dock then over-corrected to the right, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle slid sideways toward the west side of the road and struck the guardrail a second time before entering the ditch and striking an embankment.  

Dock had been wearing her seatbelt and front airbags in the vehicle deployed. Dock did not have a cell phone with her and reported the crash after she got a ride home from a passerby. Dock complained of minor injuries, but refused transport by EMS.  

Dock's vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene by Rip's Towing out of Platteville. Dock was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle.  


Intoxicated Driver Crashes Vehicle 

On December 7th, 2024, at 12:34 A.M., the Grant County Dispatch Center received a crash detection notification from an Apple Iphone, near the location of Stage Rd. and Abing Rd., in the Town of Potosi. The Deputy responded to the scene and located a 2014 Dodge Durango that had crashed and came to rest on its passenger side against a fence. The vehicle sustained moderate damage. The occupants of the vehicle remained on scene and were uninjured.  

During the investigation, the Deputy learned the driver of the vehicle, 21 year old Desmond Miesen, of Platteville, was traveling northbound on Stage Rd when he stated a deer appeared in the roadway. Miesen attempted to avoid the a collision with the deer, and lost control of the vehicle. After standardized field sobriety tests were conducted at the scene, Miesen was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence, 1st Offense. Assisting a the scene was Arrow Towing out of Lancaster.  


One vehicle crash with injuries and OWI arrest 

On December 7, 2024, at 1:36 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to a one-vehicle rollover with injuries at the intersection of CTH E and CTH D in the Town of Clifton. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a 2013 gray Ford Focus overturned and resting on the roof in the ditch on the north side of County E, just east of the County D intersection. The driver of the Ford was identified as 26-year-old, Jose Guadalupe Serrano-Sanchez, of Platteville.  

The investigation determined that Serrano-Sanchez was traveling east on CTH E when he lost control of the vehicle, went off on the south side of the road, over-corrected the steering, which caused the vehicle to enter the ditch on the north side of County E, where it struck a tree and rolled onto its top. The vehicle sustained severe damage and had to be towed from the scene. Montfort EMS responded to the scene and Serrano-Sanchez refused transport, but his 28-year-old passenger sustained a leg injury and was transported to Grant Regional Health Center.  

As a result of the crash, Serrano-Sanchez was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while under the influence, causing injury, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence 1st offense. Serrano-Sanchez was also issued citations for failure to keep vehicle under control, operate motor vehicle without insurance, and operate without valid license 1st offense.  

Assisting at the scene were: Montfort EMS, Livingston First Responders, Livingston Fire Department, Grant County Highway Department, and Haase's Towing out of Montfort.  



Revoked Driver Falls Asleep and Strikes Power Pole 

On 12/09/24, Eric Nicklaus, 43, of Cuba City, was traveling east on CTH H near Alt Rd., in the Town of Smelser, when he stated he fell asleep. Nicklaus' 2016 GMC truck veered off the road, and struck a power pole causing power lines to fall onto the roadway. As the Deputy was investigating the crash, he learned Nicklaus had a revoked driver's license. Nicklaus was issued a criminal summons for Operating after Revocation and a citation for Inattentive Driving. The truck's owner, 48 year old Dustan Duggan, of Dubuque, was also cited for Permitting an Unauthorized Person to drive. Cuba City Fire Department, Cuba City Police Department, Automotion Towing, and Scenic Rivers Energy Cooperative assisted at the scene.  



One vehicle crash with injury 

On 12-14-24 at around 10:22am, Grant County dispatch received a report of a one-vehicle crash with injury on HWY 61 near HWY 129 in the town of South Lancaster. Grant County Deputies responded and learned that Isabelle Schindler, age 21, of Lancaster, was southbound in her 2018 Ford Escape when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy roadway. Schindler entered the east ditch and struck an embankment before 

coming to rest in the ditch. Schindler and her passenger sustained injuries during the crash and were transported to Grant Regional Health Center by Lancaster EMS. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene.  

The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster Fire Department, Lancaster EMS, and Arrow Towing. 



Slide offs and Crashes during the ice storm 

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, during the Ice Storm, the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to seven slide-offs and seven reportable motor vehicle crashes. Out of those crashes, one of them resulted in injuries requiring transport to the hospital. The Sheriff's Office would like to thank all of the local police departments and the Grant County Highway Department for all their assistance during the storm.
