On 12-24-24 at approximately 11:24 a.m. the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch along Canoe Rd north of Elgin. Upon further investigation the driver of the 1993 Ford Ranger, Roger P. Halverson, 59 of Clermont was traveling north when he went into the east ditch and struck a tree causing approximately $500.00 in damage to the vehicle. Halverson was transported to Palmer hospital for possible injuries. Halverson was charged with driving while suspended and failure to maintain control. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Elgin Fire and Ambulance service.
On December 30, 2024, at 7:18AM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a car vs. deer accident on Harding Road, near Beachnut Road. When a deputy arrived, it was learned that 42-year-old Jacob Milder of Williamsburg struck a white tail deer that ran into the roadway with his 2007 Chevy Suburban. No injuries were reported and Milder’s vehicle sustained around $1500 damage.
On December 28, 2024, at 12:23 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a camper that had property stolen out of one of the outside compartments at Skip-A-Way Campground in Clermont. Upon investigation, it was learned that there were about a dozen other campers that had been tampered with, sometime in the last few weeks. This incident remains under investigation; however, Sheriff Fisher recommends that anyone that has a camper at Skip-A-Way Campground should check their campers, and make sure they are secure. If anyone has property missing, they are requested to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 563-422-6067 Ext. 233 to report anything.
On December 29, 2024, at 9:46AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a vehicle stalled in the roadway on 242nd Street, east of Rose Road. Upon investigation, it was learned that a black Buick, operated by John Robert Jola Jr. of Lansing, Iowa, was operating the car when it ran out of gas. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Jola was Suspended from operating a motor vehicle in Iowa, with 8 withdrawals in effect. Jola was transported to the Fayette County Jail. Due to further investigation, a search warrant was issued for the vehicle and methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia was located in the Buick. John Jola was charged with Operating while License Suspended, Possession of a Controlled Substance (3rd or Subsequent) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
