On 2-28-25, at approximately 11:00PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took multiple 911 calls of an assault that had occurred at 10736 Cable Rd. Arlington IA. Information provided to law enforcement stated a male subject was in the home, armed with a weapons and a thermal scope, with multiple juveniles, 1 being injured. Multiple agencies responded to the call and staged. Once on scene, contact was made with the male subject, de-escalation techniques were used, and the male subject was talked out of the home. Law enforcement made contact and took custody of subject without incident. After an investigation, Cody Ray Smith, 38 of Arlington, was arrested and charged with Kidnapping a Class B Felony, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Harassment 1st Degree Aggravated Misdemeanors. Smith was taken into custody and transported to Fayette County Jail, where he was later released on a $30,000/10% approved bond. It also was found through the investigation related to this call there was another assault that occurred at a different location, involving multiple juveniles, in which one juvenile sustained serious injury. This case is being investigated, and charges are pending. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Iowa State Patrol, Fayette Police Department, West Union Police Department, Strawberry Point Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, and Arlington and Oelwein Ambulance Service.
