On October 26th, 2024, the Dubuque Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the Asbury Police Department and the Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) participated in a nationwide effort sponsored by the DEA to collect old and unused prescription medications. Items collected included prescription medication, non-prescription medication, vitamins, herbals, supplements, syringes, and other items.
The total weight of prescription and non-prescription medication collected during the event was 236.8 pounds. The total weight of sharps collected was 115.2 pounds.
In addition, between April of 2024 and October of 2024 a total weight of 152.69 pounds of medication was collected at the drop box at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center.
The items collected will be incinerated at a later date.
A reminder to anyone who may have missed this event, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office has a Prescription Drop Box located in the front lobby of the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center located at 770 Iowa St., Dubuque, Ia.
