Delaware County Authorities released information on a number of accidents.
On October 24th at 4:21pm, a two-vehicle accident occurred on East Street Southwest and Iowa Highway 38 N. 66-year old Cindy Lou Miller of Olin was operating a 2007 Saturn Aura when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the rear driver’s side tire of a 1996 Chrysler Sebring operated by 92-year old Henry Klaus Haren of Hopkinton. The Haren vehicle spun around and the Miller vehicle struck a curb. No injuries reported. Damage totaled 65-hundred. Miller was charged with driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
A one-vehicle accident occurred on October 24th at 7pm on 140th Avenue. 49-year old Michael Lee Towlerton of Winthrop was operating a 2021 Ford Bronco and was turning to look at his GPS, looked up and turned too short. Towlerton appeared be impaired and was arrested for OWI, along with failure to provide proof of financial liability and failure to maintain control. Two juvenile passengers were in the back and were not injured. Damage totaled eight-thousand dollars.
A one-vehicle accident occurred on October 25th at 7:52pm on Littleport Road and Highway 3. 64-year old Jay Raymond Degenford of Edgewood was operating a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Degenford was southbound and was responding to a fire call with blue emergency lights activated. Degenford states he was on a hands free call with another fire fighter and took the corner too fast. He hit the brakes but was not able to make the turn. The vehicle crossed over Highway 3 and entered the south ditch. No injuries reported. Damage totaled eight-thousand dollars. Degenford was charged with failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way and failure to maintain control.
A semi accident occurred on October 27th at 11:24am. 26-year old Austin Fredrick J Mar Schuhmacher of Strawberry Point was operating a 1997 International 9400 semi. Schuhmacher was turning left onto 300th Street from Highway 13 and took the turn too quickly and the load of corn shifted, causing the trailer and semi to overturn on it’s side. Schuhmacher was not injured and damage totaled five-thousand dollars. He was charged with failure to maintain control.
