On 7-26-18, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls of a personal injury accident, including a semi & trailer and truck & trailer near the intersection of Highway 56 and Echo Rd.  Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene and conducted an investigation.  It was found that Connie Jean Kriener, 64 of Waucoma IA, was traveling westbound on Highway 56 with a truck and trailer, when she collided with Robert Gene Card, 85 of Dumont IA, who was travelling eastbound in a fully loaded semi and trailer.  Through an investigation and multiple interviews, it was found that Kriener became distracted and realized she had gone into the eastbound lane, where the collision occurred, causing the semi to roll into the south ditch and its contents covered the roadway and ditch.  Card sustained minor injuries from the rollover.  Damage to Kriener's 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup and 1996 Wilson trailer was estimated at $8,000.  The 2011 Mack Semi and 2019 trailer was considered a total loss, damage estimated at $100,000.  Kriener was cited for driving on the wrong side of a 2 lane highway, a simple misdemeanor.  Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Tri-State Ambulance, Wadena Fire, Elgin Fire, Iowa DNR, and Iowa DOT.
