Crawford Accident

On July 19th, 2018, at approximately 3:00 pm, The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 complaint from a landowner of property located on Winegar Ln, Township of Wauzeka. The landowner reported finding a male lying on his back unconscious and making gurgling noises at the end of his driveway. Tri-State EMS responded to find the male confused and uncooperative. The male got back into his vehicle and began driving away, down a driveway before an investigator with the Sheriff’s Office arrived and blocked the vehicle from leaving the scene. The Sheriff's K-9 unit arrived and identified the driver as Derek Kammrad, age 37, of Woodman, WI. The Deputies determined that Kammrad was operating a 2004 Mazda van on Winegar Lane, before leaving the roadway and striking a fence. The vehicle sustained damage to the front bumper and damaged the fence.
Kammrad, showing signs of impairment, performed standardized field sobriety testing. Kammrad was arrested for operating while under the influence of an intoxicant 2nd offense, operating after revocation, failure to install an ignition interlock device, reckless driving and operating without insurance.
Assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was Tri-State ambulance, Wauzeka first responders, Crossing Rivers Hospital and Terry’s Tire and Tow.
