On July 6, 2018, at approximately 12:09 am the Crawford County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a one-vehicle traffic crash on County Road K, just north of The Barn Restaurant, in the township of Prairie du Chien.
A 2007 Ford Mustang was northbound on County Road K when the driver, Craig T. Looney age 34 of Prairie du Chien, lost control, went down an embankment and struck a tree on the east side of the road. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene. A female passenger, Ashtyn A. Miles age 23 of Prairie du Chien, in the vehicle was transported to Crossing Rivers Health. Then airlifted to Gundersen in La Crosse and remains in stable condition. The driver and passenger were both wearing their seatbelts. There were several eyewitnesses outside of their campers along CTH K who stated that it appeared that speed was a contributing factor to the accident causing the driver to lose control.

The Wisconsin State Patrol will be conducting a reconstruction of the accident today.
Assisting on scene was the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Tri-State Regional EMS, Crawford County Coroner, Bridgeport Fire Department, Bridgeport First Responders, MedLink AIR and Bob's Towing.

This crash remains under investigation.
