On May 19, 2018 at 7:34am, Clayton County Deputies along with the Guttenberg Ambulance and the Guttenberg Fire Department were dispatched to a tractor rollover at 34518 Mesquite Road, rural Colesburg. Upon further investigation, it was determined that 10 year old Carter Hillers of Guttenberg was operating a Farmall 706 tractor while traveling down a hill road when he lost control. The tractor struck an LP tank causing it to overturn pinning Hiller’s underneath. Bystanders were able to free Hiller’s prior to emergency services arriving on scene. He was taken by private vehicle to the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital and later transferred to the University of Wisconsin- Madison Hospital via Med-Flight for treatment of injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

 

On May 22, 2018 at 11:00am, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to an ATV accident at Cedar Wood Hills near Strawberry Point. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Jordan Millard of Guttenberg was operating an ATV when it overturned. Millard was transported to Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

 

On May 22, 2018 at 12:30pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Birch Road near Volga. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Bettina Walke of Volga was operating a 2017 Lexus E35 when she lost control causing the vehicle to enter the ditch and overturn causing $15,000 damage. Walke was transported to the Central Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Walke was cited for failure to maintain control. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Volga Fire & First Responders, and the Central Ambulance.

 

On May 23, 2018 at 4:19pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 18 and Falcon Ave. Upon further investigation it was determined that Sandra Thompson of McGregor was operating a 2008 Honda 4 door when she attempted to cross the Highway 18 intersection and was struck by a westbound 2012 Chevrolet Silverado operated by James Ortery of Abingdon, IL. No injuries were reported and only minor damage occurred. Thompson was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.

 

On May 25, 2018 at 5:12am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 145thStreet and Essex Ave. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Kayla Schmidt of Farmersburg was operating a 2004 Ford Taurus northbound on Essex when she failed to obey a stop sign and struck a westbound 1999 Chevrolet Venture operated by Blake Evanson of Monona. Both vehicles sustained approximately $5,000 damage. No injuries were reported. Schmidt was cited for fail to obey stop sign.

 

On May 25, 2018 at 2:51pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Highway 13 near Forest Road. Upon further investigation it was determined that Susan James of Bluffs, IL was operating a 2013 International Semi southbound was sideswiped by a northbound 2011 Ford F250 that crossed the center line line operated by Joseph Jones of Boscobel. No injuries were reported. Minor damage was reported. Jones was cited for driving on the wrong side of a two way highway.

 

On May 26, 2018 at 1:36pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Highway 13 near 318thStreet. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Allison Blake of Clarence, IA was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Highway 13 when she lost control. Her vehicle entered the ditch and overturned causing $18,000 damage. Blake was transported to Central Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. She was cited for failure to maintain control.

 

On May 27, 2018 at 2:13pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a report of trespassing on Forestville Road near Strawberry Point. Deputies made contact with 51 year old Scott Timmerman of Strawberry Point. Upon further investigation, Timmerman was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail, where he was charged with driving while license barred.

 

On May 27, 2018 at 8:30pm, Clayton County Deputies observed a motorcycle traveling 82 in a 55 zone eastbound in Highway 18 near Goldmine Road. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and Deputies initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit the motorcycle reached speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour passing vehicles in a no passing zone and on the right. The pursuit continued into the State of Wisconsin where the Prairie Du Chien Police Department assisted. The driver lost control of the motorcycle causing him to go into the ditch in the City of Prairie Du Chien. 28 year old Timothy Timler of Prairie Du Chien was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail and will be extradited to Iowa for charges of Eluding (Class “D” Felony)

 

On May 28, 2018 at 10:58am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Highway 76 in between Marquette and McGregor. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Jeffrey Ware of Fennimore WI was operating a 2017 Honda when a rock fell off of the bluff landing on the hood and striking the front of the vehicle causing airbag deployment. No injuries were reported. Ware’s vehicle sustained $5,000 damage.

 

On May 29, 2018 at 2:08pm, Clayton County Deputies along with the Guttenberg Police Department responded to a suspicious person call at 402 S. Highway 52. Deputies located the suspect in Guttenberg and made contact with 22 year old Cody Hartfield of Guttenberg. Upon further investigation, Hartfield was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with Public Intoxication, Assault on a peace officer, and interference with official acts.

 

On May 29, 2018 Clayton County Deputies filed charges of tampering with a witness on 40 year old Jennifer Trappe of Luana, and 41 year old John Kottman of Luana. Kottman remains in the Clayton County Jail on charges relating to the original crime. Trappe was arrested on May 29th and transported to the Clayton County Jail where she remains in custody on $5,000 cash bond.

 

On May 29, 2018 at 8:24am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on the Gunder Road near Elkader. Upon further investigation it was determined that Daniel Beck of Elkader was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on the Gunder Road. Beck was stopped waiting to turn into a private driveway when he was rearended by a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Patricia Suhr of Saint Olaf causing $21,000 damage to Suhr’s vehicle and $8,000 damage to Beck’s vehicle. Suhr was transported to Central Community Hospital by the Central Ambulance for treatment of injuries. Beck was uninjured in the accident. Suhr was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Elkader Fire Department, Central Ambulance Service and the Elkader Police Department.

 

On May 29, 2018 at 9:07pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a car vs deer accident on the Great River Road near McGregor. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Jennifer Peak of Eastman, WI was operating a 2011 Ford Fusion when she struck a deer causing $2,500 damage. No injuries were reported.

 

On May 30, 2018 at 8:00am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Hilton Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Wayne Miranda of Edgewood was operating a 2017 GMC Sierra when he struck a deer causing $2,000 damage. No injuries were reported.
