Volga Council

The Volga City Council met for the regular February Council Meeting on Monday, February 5, 2018 in the Volga City Hall. Mayor Pete Duff called the meeting to order at 7pm. Council members Jerome Godson, Elaine Follon, Dennis Christeleit answered Roll Call.

The Consent Agenda was presented with the following items: 1) Minutes, 2) Claims, 3) Treasurer’s Report, 4) Bank Reconciliation Report – January 2018, and 5) Monthly Budget Report. Godson motioned. Christeleit seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Randy Kramer entered the meeting.

Mayor Duff updated Council on project eligibility discussions with Leon Freeman, Iowa Emergency Management in the areas of street repairs and debris removal.

Randy Kramer, Prairie Road Builders, introduced himself to Council and discussed street repair options and specifications for bidding.

Follon motioned to narrow the focus of the FEMA street projects to Cass Street (including mobilization) and to re-issue a standardized specifications sheet to the vendors. The debris/silt removal project will be narrowed to include the silt at the floodgate and debris at the Cass Street bridge. Godson seconded. All voted in favor.

The Volga Fire Department is planning to send out a quarterly newsletter to the patrons in the fire district. The request has been made for the City to pay the postage on the quarterly mailing. Follon motioned to approve the expenditure. Christeleit seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Council reviewed proposals received to provide City Attorney services to the City of Volga to accept or reject any and all proposals received. Follon motioned to accept the proposal submitted by Pat Dillon/Dillon Law. Godson seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

The Clerk provided a review of funds and projects for the FY 18-19 budget. Christeleit motioned to fund the requests for support in the same amounts as last year for Northeast Iowa Community Action, Substance Abuse Services, Clayton County Development Group, and Helping Services of Northeast Iowa. Follon seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried. Godson motioned to hold the Public Hearing date for consideration of FY 18-19 budget on March 12, 2018 at 6:50pm. Christeleit seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Council discussed Delinquent Utilities and authorized shut offs.

Godson motioned to Adjourn. Follon seconded. All voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned at

8:25pm.
