Auxilary Promotion

Steven Gress of McGregor has been promoted to the position of Division Commander (DCDR), 2nd Division, 8 Western Rivers District, US Coast Guard Auxiliary.

At a Change of Watch ceremony held on January 7, 2018 LCDR Sean M. Peterson, US Coast Guard administered the oath of office to Steve Gress as the new Commander of the Second Division, US Coast Guard Auxiliary.

DCDR Gress will be responsible for overseeing the four Flotillas of the 2nd Division; Rochester, Winona, Lacrosse and Prairie du Chien.

Also taking their oaths of office were former DCDR George S Gress of Ferryville, WI who was promoted to District Captain, the Flotilla Commanders and Vice Commanders of the four flotillas of Division Two and numerous other flotilla and division staff officers.

DCDR Gress joined the Auxiliary at Prairie du Chien in 2012 and has served in several flotilla and division positions including Prairie du Chien Flotilla Commander. Steve will continue as Flotilla Operations Officer, Member Training Officer and Coxswain of the Flotilla’s operational facility the Kaley-Annie.

Steve and Laura, his wife of 42 years, reside in McGregor. Laura is also an Auxiliary member serving as Flotilla Staff Officer for Information Technology (IT).

Steve worked for Sysco Iowa retiring in 2012 as President/CEO with 34 years of service to the company.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939 and is the all-volunteer uniformed component of the US Coast Guard. The Auxiliary supports the Coast Guard in nearly all areas of operation. For membership information please visit
