Luana City Council Minutes of January, 3, 2018

Meeting at the Luana City Hall

The Luana City Council held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, January, 3, 2018 at 7:00 pm. with Council Members Lonnie Baade, Brenda Boddicker, Paul Miller, Todd Olson and Jackie Radloff-Schneider present. Absent: none.

Mayor Jerry Schroeder called meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Minutes of December meeting were reviewed and approved upon a motion by Miller, second by Olson, carried unanimously.

Radloff-Schneider motioned to pay all monthly claims totaling $13,992.86, Baade second, carried unanimously. Receipts for the month totaled $33,457.03. Total gross wages reported for 2017 for all elected officials and city employees $76,198.76. Radloff-Schneider motioned to pass Res. 1-18 T.O.F, Boddicker second, carried unanimously.  

Olson motioned to pass Res. 1-2018 City of Luana declaring its intent to support and work with the Northeast Iowa housing 360 Initiative, Miller second, carried unanimously. Roll call vote: AYES 5, NAYS 0. Whereupon, the Mayor declared the measure duly adopted.

Baade motioned to name “The Outlook” as the City of Luana’s official newspaper, Olson second, carried unanimously. Res. 1.2-2018 adopted.

Boddicker motioned to approve a 3% pay increase for City Administrator, Miller second. Roll call vote:  AYES 5, NAYS 0. Jackie Radloff-Schneider motioned to approve a .50 cent per hour increase for Superintendent of Public Works, Baade second. Roll call vote:  AYES 5, NAYS 0. Res. 1.3-2018 signed.

Boddicker motioned to appoint Paul Miller as mayor pro tem for the City of Luana, Jackie Radloff-Schneider second, carried unanimously.

Council was informed that the city incurred a monitoring violation. This violation was for a bacteria sample that was scheduled for the month of November. SPW mailed in required sample on 11-7-17. City has copies of required documentation, chain of custody, that were mailed in with the sample. Lab stated they did not receive said sample therefore the DNR issued a violation to the city for not having a sample for the month of November.  Letters will be mailed to citizens, attached to their water bills this month.

Fire Chief informed council that plans to break ground for new firehouse will begin this spring.

Next regular Council meeting will be held February 1, 2018 at 7:00pm.

Mayor Schroeder adjourned the meeting at 8:02 pm.
