Elkader Water

The City of Elkader is reminding water customers to check the temperature of their water.  We have received several reports of plumbing freezing in individual houses as well as at least two reports of private service lines freezing.

As the below-zero temperatures continue, check the temperature of your water. This is done by letting the cold water run through a faucet not connected to a water softener and then using a thermometer to determine if the water is getting below 40 degrees. If so, you will need to keep checking it or let water run. Once it gets too cold, water services can freeze quickly.

Some may remember the winter of 2014 when many individual service lines froze as well as some water mains. The homeowner is responsibility for the service line from the main to the home.

Thank you.
