Forage Acres

By: News Release
Nov 29th, 2017

Farmers who have any perennial forage or fall seeded small grains should visit the Clayton County Farm Service Agency (FSA) prior to December 15, 2013, to report the acreage. The December deadline covers crops that will remain seeded over the winter, with an intention of forage use in crop year 2018.

Cover crops that will be plowed under, or any forage that is intended to be left standing and not harvested in any way, are exempt from the December deadline and should be reported prior to July 15, 2018, when certifying spring planted crops.

Clayton County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director, Cindy Mensen, stated that farmers will keep eligibility for FSA program benefits intact, and not be subject to late filing fees, if they file accurate and timely reports for all crops and land uses, including failed acreages.

Please pay close attention to the acreage reporting dates for 2018. The following acreage reporting dates are applicable for Clayton County farmers:

12-15-2017: Fall seeded small grains & perennial forage

07-15-2018: All other crops

To make an appointment to complete your 2018 forage reports, please contact the Clayton County FSA office at (563) 245-1713, extension 2.
