On September 26, 2017 at 11:07am, Clayton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Grandview Road near 322nd Street for a traffic violation. Deputies came into contact with 47 year old Christine Bailey of Garber. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Bailey’s license was suspended for non-payment of child support. Bailey was arrested for driving while suspended and transported to the Clayton County Jail where she was held pending an appearance  in Magistrate Court.

 

On October 1, 2017 at 7:26pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Highway 3 near Acorn Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Daniel Childers of Aurora was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck a deer causing $2,500 damage. No injuries were reported.

 

On October 3, 2017 at 7:55am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Highway 52 South of Garnavillo. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Halsey Darling of Guttenberg was operating a 2006 Hyundai Elantra when she struck a deer causing $4,000 damage. No injuries were reported.

 

On October 7, 2017 at 1:52am, Clayton County Deputies observed a suspicious vehicle in Giard. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and came into contact with 37 year old Jon Moreland of McGregor. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Moreland was wanted out of Allamakee County for failure to appear. Moreland was arrested and turned over to Allamakee County authorities.  

On October 8, 2017 at 1:50pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 13/52 near Highway 18. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Kenneth Brown of Cedar Rapids was operating a 2016 Mazda CX5 Southbound on Highway 13/52 when he attempted to pass a 2002 Chevrolet 2500 operated by Samuel Koch of Coggon. An oncoming Northbound 2011 Harley Davidson Motorcycle operated by Dawn Hicks of Waverly and a 2014 Harley Davidson operated by Timothy Smith of Waverly took evasive action to avoid hitting Brown. Hicks’ motorcycle struck Smith’s motorcycle causing him to lose control and strike Koch’s vehicle. Hicks was transported to the Central Community Hospital by Monona Ambulance for treatment of injuries. Brown was charged with unsafe passing. Deputies also investigated a second accident which occurred after the first accident. A 2007 Saturn Outlook operated by Gary Hamor of Oelwein was traveling Northbound when he slowed down due to the first accident. His vehicle was rear ended  by a 2003 Subaru Outback operated by Jonathan Romo of Aplington. Two passengers in Hamor’s vehicle were transported to Central Community Hospital by the Monona Ambulance for treatment of injuries. Romo was charged with Failure to maintain control. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Monona Ambulance, the Monona Fire Department and the Iowa State Patrol.

On October 8, 2017 at 7:03pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a driving complaint on Highway 13 near 182nd Street. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 13 near 230th Street. Deputies came into contact with 62 year old Becky Kainz of Elkader. Deputies observed signs of impairment and field sobriety testing was completed. Upon further investigation, Kainz was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense. Kainz was transported to the Clayton County Jail pending an appearance in Magistrate Court.

 

On October 10, 2017 at 6:49am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs. deer accident on Highway 13 near Elkader. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Robert Camp of Elkader was operating a 2017 GMC Sierra when he struck a deer causing $7,000 damage. No injuries were reported.  

 

On October 10, 2017 at 7:05am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Gunder Road near 200th Street. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Taj Osman of Monona was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck a deer causing $4,000 damage. No injuries were reported.

 

On October 11, 2017, Clayton County Deputies arrested 37 year old Ryan Knight of Oelwein on a Buchanan County Warrants for Violation of a No contact order and accessory to a felony. Knight was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was later released to Buchanan County authorities.

 

On October 11, 2017 at 11:14am, Clayton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 52 and Main Street in Guttenberg for a traffic violation. Deputies came into contact with 47 year old Joel Bolsinger of Guttenberg. Deputies observed drug paraphernalia containing marijuana in plain view. Bolsinger was subsequently arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance- marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Guttenberg Police Department.

 

On October 11, 2017, Clayton County Deputies arrested 22 year old Marcus King of Saint Olaf on a Clayton County Warrant for probation violation, original charge of indecent contact with a child. King was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $50,000 bond.

 

On October 12, 2017 Clayton County Deputies took custody of 32 year old Brittani Menge of Cedar Rapids from Linn County Authorities on a Clayton County Warrant for Probation Violation- original charge of Manufacturing Methamphetamine. Menge was transported to the Clayton County Jail where she is being held without bond.
