On 9/16/17 at 7:46 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a motorcycle accident with injuries on Hwy 18 approximately 2 miles west of West Union. An investigation determined that a group of motorcycles was travelling westbound on Hwy 18 when a deer entered the roadway from the left and ran into the front tire of a 2003 Harley Davidson operated by Chad Lee Brickman age 38 from Waterloo and a passenger April Ann Washburn age 36 from Waterloo. The impact from the deer caused the motorcycle to veer into the path of a 2013 Harley Davidson operated by Benjamin Joseph Tickal age 35 from Waterloo and a passenger Katherine Anne Tickal age 35 from Waterloo.  Both drivers and passengers were thrown from the motorcycles and sustained critical injuries and all were transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union. Brickman and Washburn were later airlifted to Covenant and Allen Hospital in Waterloo. There was an estimated $7500 damage to both motorcycles. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, West Union Police Dept. , Tri State Ambulance, Fayette Ambulance and West Union Fire Dept.

 

On September 5, 2017, at approximately 4:00 AM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a car vs. deer accident on Highway 150 near Clark Street, just south of Fayette. Upon Further investigation by Sheriff’s Deputy it was determined John Charles Fels, age 36 of Hawkeye, was driving a Green 2015 Chevrolet Spark LS south bound when he struck a deer in the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained approximately $2500 in damage.

 

 

On 9/17/17 16 at 7:34 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a vehicle that struck a deer on Cedar Rd north of Bighorn Rd. An investigation determined that Paul Gareth Burkhalter age 65 from Strawberry Point was operating a 2014 Kia Sorento southbound on Cedar Rd when a deer entered the roadway and was struck causing an estimated $2500 damage. Burkhalter and his passenger were not injured.

 

 

On 09/17/2017 at approx. 03:29 Fayette County 911 received a call of a vehicle in a ditch at the 7000 block of K Ave.  Once deputies arrived it was learned that Joshua Woodard, 26 of Hazelton was traveling South on K Ave when he lost control and entered the East ditch causing the vehicle to roll several times.  Woodard was not injured but his 2000 Dodge Stratus was considered a total loss.  Woodard was cited for failure to maintain control.  Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted on the scene by Maynard First Responders and Maynard Fire.

 

 

On 9-14-17 at approximately 12:441 AM Fayette County received a report of a suspicious female walking along Highway 18. Upon investigation Chyanne Slick, 32 of Sumner was arrested and charged with Public Intoxicated 1st offense and possession of a prescription without a prescription. She is being held at the Fayette County Jail awaiting an intial appearance.

 

On 9/15/17 at 8:12 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a vehicle that struck a deer on Grain Rd east of Heron Rd. An investigation determined that Megan Marie Mohlis age 25 from Elgin was operating a 2014 Chevy Equinox eastbound on Grain Rd when a deer entered the roadway and was struck causing an estimated $5000 damage to the Vehicle. Mohlis and her 2  passengers were not injured. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources and Fayette Fire Dept.
