Volga Council

The Volga City Council met for the regular July meeting on Monday, July 10, 2017 in the Volga City Hall. Mayor Pete Duff called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. Council members Elaine Follon, Jerome Godson, Mike Howard, and Dennis Christeleit answered Roll Call. Darren Nading, Nick Fettkether, and Lanny Deitchler were also present

The Consent Agenda was presented with the following items: 1) Minutes: June 12, June 27, 2) Claims, 3) Treasurer’s Report, 4) Bank Reconciliations – June 2017, 5) June Budget Report, and 6) Floodplain Development Permit: Willis Chase/William J Hallock, 104 Chase Street. Godson motioned to approve the Consent Agenda. Christeleit seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Nick Fettkether and Lanny Deitchler discussed a grant application to Upper Mississippi Gaming Corporation for the Fire Department. They will request funds for updating SCBA equipment and tanks. Follon motioned to approve the submission of a full application to UMGC for the project. Howard seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Deitchler updated Council on plans to conduct an energy audit at the fire station.

Darren Nading requested the installation of a Children at Play sign on Buchanan Street. He suggested the sign be installed at the City Limits coming from the North off of the county road. Follon motioned to install the sign. Godson seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

The County has been contacted to assess the debris situation at the Highway C2W and Cass Street Bridge and see what options exist for removal. No action was taken.

Council discussed options for a storage structure including location and removal of existing building on Marion Street.

Council reviewed an updated Application for Building Permit form that has been reformatted to reflect the Code requirements and verification of property lines. Follon motioned to approve the new form. Christeleit seconded. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Follon discussed a request to find a location to stockpile donated brick on city property. The brick has been donated by VCTC Inc. to the City Hall/ Library Committee. No action was taken.

Mayor Duff presented Resolution 2017-09: A Resolution setting the compensation for additional duties of City Clerk: Grant writer and administrator for the City of Volga City, Iowa. Follon motioned to approve the Resolution. Howard seconded. A Roll Call vote was taken: Ayes: Follon, Godson, Howard, Christeleit. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Mayor Duff presented Resolution 2017-10: A Resolution authorizing transfer of funds from Enterprise Funds to General Checking Account. Godson motioned to approve the Resolution. Follon seconded. A Roll Call vote was taken. Ayes: Follon, Godson, Howard, Christeleit. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Delinquent utilities were discussed with liens and shut offs approved.

Godson motioned to adjourn. Howard seconded. All voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40pm.
