Chase Arrest

ON JULY 2ND AT APPROXIMATELY 1:58AM, MOUNT VERNON POLICE CONDUCTED A TRAFFIC STOP ON A VEHICLE WHICH THE DESCRIPTION DID NOT MATCH REGISTRATION INFORMATION.  THE TRAFFIC STOP OCCURED IN THE 700 BLOCK OF 10TH AVENUE SOUTHWEST ON A BLACK CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP.  AS THE OFFICE WAS SPEAKING TO THE DRIVER, THE DRIVER PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND RAMMED THE POLICE CRUISER PARKED BEHIND HIM.  THE SUSPECT RAMMED THE POLICE VEHICLE THREE TIMES AS HE WAS ATTEMPTED TO FLEE THE SCENE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE POLICE VEHICLE.  THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND THE POLICE CAR, AND MOUNT VERNON OFFICERS BEGAN PURSUING THE SUSPECT.
THE VEHICLE FLED EASTBOUND ON HIGHWAY 30 FROM 10TH AVENUE SOUTHWEST, THEN PROCEEDED SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 1 TO CEDAR RIVER ROAD, THEN WEST ON HIGHWAY 30 IN THE EASTBOUND LANES OF TRAFFIC.  THE DRIVER THEN DID A U-TURN AND PROCEEDED EAST ON HIGHWAY 30 THROUGH LISBON TO CHARLES AVENUE.  THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ON GRAVEL ROADS INTO MECHANISCVILLE, WHEN OFFICERS LOST SIGHT OF THE VEHICLE.
OFFICERS THEN REQUESTED FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE MAKE CONTACT WITH THE REGISTERED OWNER OF THE VEHICLE.  OFFICER THEN DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPORTED STOLEN TO THE WEST UNION POLICE DEPARTMENT ON JUNE 29TH.  OFFICERS WERE ALSO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS POSSIBLY BEING DRIVEN BY 20-YEAR OLD TYLER KELLY OF WEST UNION.  OFFICERS WERE ADVISED THAT TYLER WAS CURRENTLY WANTED FOR ESCAPE FROM THE WEST UNION RESIDENTIAL FACILITY.  MOUNT VERNON OFFICERS WERE ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT TYLER WAS THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE DURING THE PURSUIT.
AT APPROXIMATELY 3:16AM MOUNT VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED THAT CLARENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAD LOCATED THE STOLEN VEHICLE IN CLARENCE, IOWA.  AFTER SEARCHING THE AREA, OFFICERS WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE TYLER.
ON JULY 2ND AT APPOXIMATELY 11:45AM, MOUNT VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED AT THE CEDAR COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICER, CLARENCE PD, AND IOWA DNR HAD LOCATED TYLER AT 204 SMITH STREET IN CLAREN, IOWA.  TYLER WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AND TRANSPORTED TO THE LINN COUNTY CORRECTION CENTER.
TYLER IS CHARGED WITH: ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER WITH INTENT TO INFLICT SERIOUS INJURY, ELUDING, THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE, CRMINIAL MISCHIEF 2ND DEGREE, DRIVING WHILE BARRED, AND SPEEDING 100MPH IN A 55-MPH.
MOUNT VERNON POLICE ASSISTED BY THE LINN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, LISBON POLICE DEPARTMENT, IOWA STATE PATROL, IOWA DNR, CEDAR COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICER, MECHANICSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, CLARENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
