Vehicle FireBy: News Release

On April 9th, 2017 at approximately 6:19 PM, Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a report of a vehicle on fire on Highway V68, approximately one half mile north of Highway 18. Upon investigation, it was found that 22 year old Cameron Maurer of Dunkerton was driving a white 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 south bound on Highway V68 hauling a grain dryer, when his vehicle stalled out. Upon getting out of the truck, it was discovered by Cameron that the rear end of the truck was on fire, and by then had spread to the cab of the truck. Hawkeye Fire and Rescue was contacted, and they were able to put the fire out without further incident. Both the driver and his passenger escaped without injury. The truck is considered a total loss, and minimal damage was done to the grain dryer.
