Traffic Charges

On 11-25-19 at approx. 11:19 p.m. the a Fayette County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the 600 block of Hwy 150 south in the City of Oelwein. The driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit the driver committed several other traffic violations including striking an Oelwein Patrol vehicle during the pursuit. The Oelwein Police Officer was transported to Mercy Hospital by Mercy One Ambulance for unknown injuries. The driver of the vehicle Blayze L. Harding 26, of Oelwein was not injured. Harding was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was charged with Driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor), Eluding (class “D” felony), possession of methamphetamine 3rd offense (class “D” felony), and possession of marijuana 3rd offense (aggravated misdemeanor). Harding’s passenger was not injured in the accident and this case remains under investigation and more charges are pending. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Mercy One Ambulance, and the Oelwein Fire Department.
