Coast Guard Promotions

On September 8th a US Coast Guard Auxiliary qualification examiner visited Prairie du Chien and conducted qualification examinations for members of the Prairie du Chien Flotilla.

Prairie du Chien Auxiliarist Hal Wilson of Elgin, Iowa qualified and recently received his initial crew certification.

Crew members Dan Brewer, of Richland Center and Joanie Dickerson of Bagley, WI along with Art Sullivan of Elkport, Iowa all received their three-year re-certification along with Ramona Gonzales and Nathan Gentry of the Lacrosse and Winona Flotillas respectively.

Crews must meet US Coast Guard standards and re-certify every three years. 

This certification allows these Auxiliarist to serve as crewmembers on Auxiliary patrol vessels during river patrol, search and rescue, and other on water operations as requested by the US Coast Guard.

The Prairie du Chien crews are supervised by Coxswain Steve Gress of McGregor, Iowa.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the U.S. Coast Guard and supports the Coast Guard in nearly all mission areas. The Auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939. For more information, please visit
