The City of Clayton has added a backup power generator to their water treatment facility. The unit was funded through Federal Disaster Funds and Iowa Homeland Security in October of 2018. The total project cost is $22,000 with 75% Federal Match, 10% State match, and 15% City approved funds.
A few years ago, the Iowa DNR had suggested this project and water rates were increased to begin saving for the project.
The generator will automatically provide power whenever there is power outage thus, finally bringing some piece of mind to the folks in town. In the past when the the city lost power, the residents had to be more mindful of water use until the power was restored. Per Council Member Russett, the generator was sized with future growth in mind.
