2019 Clayton County Fair Queen Candidates
Megan Cunningham is the 18-year-old daughter of Jim and Sharon Cunningham of Guttenberg. Her sponsor is Garnavillo Mill, Inc. of Garnavillo. She is a member of the Jefferson Go-Hawks 4-H Club and the Tri-Star FFA. At Clayton Ridge High School, she was involved in softball, volleyball and helped with the community blood drive. Megan is actively involved at St. Mary’s Church being a class leader for vacation bible school, an altar server and eucharistic minister. In her spare time, Megan likes to spend time with friends and family, play sports ad work with her cattle. This fall she will attend Northeast Iowa Community College to complete her general education classes and then join the Radiologic Technology program.

Evelyn Falck is the 19-year-old daughter of Tom and Krista Falck of Strawberry Point. Her sponsor is BJ’s Ayrshires- Bryon Franks of Elkader. She is a member of 4-H and has held numerous leadership positions. Also, she is a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church where she is actively involved. In high school, Evelyn was involved with student council, spirit squad, National Honor Society, student leadership, basketball manager, choir, theater, FFA, and mentoring. In her spare time, Evelyn likes to make and refinish wood projects, baking and cooking. This fall, Evelyn will be attending Hawkeye Community College to become an Executive Assistant and will be taking extra classes to graduate with the Legal Assistant Degree. After college, she plans on working as a Legal Assistant and maybe furthering her law schooling.

Mia Gibson is the 16-year-old daughter of Jim and Lin Gibson of Elgin. Her sponsor is Torkelson Motors of Elgin. Mia is a member of the Marion Happy Hustlers 4-H Club and the Clayton County 4-H Council. She was recently the past Clayton County Beef Queen. Mia is involved in everything related to agriculture. This includes working on her family farm raising Red Angus cattle. In high school, she is a member of the North Fayette Valley FFA and is Chapter President and Northeast FFA District Northwest Vice President. This fall, Mia will be a Senior at North Fayette Valley High School and then plans on attending DMACC in Ankeny and majoring in Agriculture Business. Her future goal is to come home and take over the family farm.

Abrianna Moore is the 18-year-old daughter of Aaron and JoLynn Moore of Guttenberg.She is being sponsored by Clayton Lighthouse of Clayton. Abrianna is the President of the Garnavillo Hawks 4-H Club, member of the 5C Coalition and is a member of the St. John’s Luther League. She was very active in high school as being captain for four different activities: softball, volleyball, basketball and drill team. She also participated in golf, Spanish club, show choir and concert choir. Abrianna’s hobbies include spending time with friends and family, shopping, playing sports and traveling. This fall, she plans on attending the University of Northern Iowa to major in Health Sciences. After her years at UNI, Abrianna plans to attend Allen College to receive her nursing degree to eventually become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

Maire Powell is the 18-year-old daughter of Kevin and Marcia Powell of Strawberry Point. She is being sponsored by Thole Custom Chopping, LLC. of Strawberry Point. Maire is a member of 4-H, FFA and HOBY. In high school, she was involved with spirit squad, cross-country, student council, student leadership, basketball manager, speech, theatre, drama, band, choir and mentoring. Maire is very active with the Church of the Saviour and the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa Youth. Her hobbies include photography, coin collecting, art, creating creative makeup looks and singing. She like to try many new things to keep her busy. Maire’s future plans are to attend Kirkwood Community College to major in agricultural education and minor in communication. After her two years, she plans on attending Iowa State University to finish out her major.

Chezney Priem is the 17-year-old daughter of Travis and Amy Priem of New Vienna. Her sponsor is Pattison Sand Company of Clayton. She is a member of the Mallory Minks 4-H Club as the Treasurer and Ed-Co FFA where she is the currently President. At Ed-CO High School, Chezney is involved with volleyball and is a member of the student council. Chezney’s hobbies include hanging out with family and friends, hunting, fishing, working/showing livestock and working at various jobs. This fall, she will be a Senior at Edgewood-Colesburg and then plans on attending Kirkwood Community College to major in Agriculture Business and minor in Beef Production. After college, Chezney plans to start her career as an Agricultural Loan Officer and possibly continuing her schooling.

This is our inaugural year of the Clayton County Fair King Contest.
Hunter Thompson is the 16-year-old son of Jeri Kay Schiffman and Jim Hoth of Elkader. His sponsor is A Little Off the Top Salon, Jenni Francis of Elkader. Hunter is a member of 4-H and was recently named to the Clayton County 4-H Council. He is the current Ed-Co FFA Chapter Treasurer and is a member of the Hope Lutheran Church Council as a Youth Representative. Hunter works for Whittle Farms in Volga. He has received numerous FFA chapter awards and honors. In Hunter’s spare time, he enjoys fishing and helping others as a farm hand. This fall, he will continue high school at Edgewood-Colesburg and then in a couple of years, he plans on attending Iowa State University or the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to eventually become a large animal veterinarian.
