Lawn Mower Accident

On June 5, 2019, at approximately 8:43 pm the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call that a 3 year old female had been run over by a lawn mower and received serious injuries. This incident happened in the town of Hawkeye on East Burger Street. The child received medical attention on scene by TriState Ambulance and was then transported by Gundersen Air helicopter to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.    Upon further investigation, the driver of the lawn mower was identified as Tanner J. Miller, age 23 of Hawkeye. Miller was mowing at the residence when he backed over the child. Upon further investigation it was discovered he was intoxicated. Miller was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor) and Homicide or serious injury by vehicle, a class “D” felony. Miller was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he awaits an initial appearance. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Hawkeye Fire Department, Hawkeye First Responders, and TriState Ambulance.  This collision is being investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Technical Collision Investigator.
