On May 23rd, 2019 at approximately 5:00 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Darrick James Brehm, age 47 of Oelwein. Brehm was arrested and held on a valid Fayette County Arrest Warrant for Probation Violation. Brehm was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was held on a $5000.00 bond.

 

On May 25, 2019 at 5:37 AM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a subject asleep in his vehicle in the middle of the road outside of Hawkeye on 210th Street.  When a deputy arrived, the vehicle had moved west from its original location and was then located on 210th Street just east of Y Ave, with a male passed out in the driver’s seat sitting in the middle of the road.  Upon investigation, it was learned that 30 year old Kory Michael Schwan of Sumner was intoxicated.  Schwan was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor) and Open Container (Simple Misdemeanor).  Schwan was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was held for an initial appearance in court.

 

On Monday, May 27, 2019 the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office placed 25 year old Johnathan Allan Marmann of Fayette, under arrest for Child Endangerment.  This charge stems from an incident that occurred on Saturday, May 25th, 2019 at his residence outside of Fayette where the defendant struck a 3 year old minor child with a wooden paddle, causing bruising.  Marmann was charged with Child Endangerment Causing Injury, a Class D Felony, and was held at the Fayette County Jail until an initial appearance in court. On May 23rd, 2019 at approximately 9:07 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to a car vs. deer accident near the intersection of Highway 3 and R Avenue. Upon arrival it was discovered that the driver, 52-year-old Larry Doerring of Manchester was traveling Eastbound in his 2018 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck a deer, which was crossing the travel portion of the roadway. No injuries and only minor damages were reported.

 

On May 25th, 2019 at approximately 2:10 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch near 50th and Unicorn. Upon arrival it was discovered that the driver, Benjamin L. Shimp, age 58 of Dunkerton lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the East ditch in his 1998 Ford Explorer. Upon conducting an investigation into the incident Shimp was charged with, Operating While Intoxicated First Offense (serious misdemeanor) and Failure to Maintain Control (simple misdemeanor). Shimp was later transported to the Fayette County Jail and held pending initial appearance with the magistrate.  No injuries or reportable damage was reported.

 

On May 26th, 2019 the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took Steven J. Winter, age 60 of Hawkeye into custody on a valid Fayette County Warrant for Theft in the Fifth Degree (simple misdemeanor).  Winter was transported to the Fayette County Jail and held on a $500.00 bond.  The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sumner Police Department.
