The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Emergency Management and Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force participated in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 27th.

The Drug Task Force and its seventeen agencies had several drop off sites throughout Northeast Iowa. The purpose of this event is to keep medications out of the hands of people who may misuse or abuse them, especially our youth. Prescription drug abuse is a growing epidemic in America; it is one of the fastest growing threats to our youth today.

Our participation yielded 130.6 pounds of the 540.2 pounds of prescription medications taken in by the Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force.
