On 3-9-19 at approx. 1:00 AM a Fayette County Deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon investigation Vincent Otdoerfer, 25 of Hawkeye was arrested and charged with Driving While License Revoked. He was held at the Fayette County Jail awaiting an initial appearance.

On 3-11-19, at approximately 7:45 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office took a report of an occupied school bus that went into the ditch near the intersection of M Avenue and 100th St., just outside of Maynard IA.  After Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene, it was found that Michael James Carey, 78 of Fayette, was backing up a school bus, when the bus went into the east ditch on M Avenue.  No injuries were sustained and damage to the school bus was minimal--photo below


On 3-9-19, at approximately 2:45 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office took a report of a 2 vehicle accident near the intersection of R Avenue and 110th St.  After Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene it was found that William Leslie Hoover, 45 of Maynard, was southbound on R Avenue, when he lost control due to weather conditions and went into the west ditch.  It was also found that Dallas Charles Oberbroeckling, 50 of Sumner, was also southbound on R Avenue when he lost control due to weather conditions and went into the west ditch.  Both vehicle went into the ditch at the same location, which caused a collision.  No injuries were sustained.  Damage to Hoover's 1999 GMC Envoy was estimated at $3,000 and damage to Oberbroeckling's 2005 Ford Escape was estimated at $4,000.  The incident remains under investigation.

On March 10, 2019 at approximately 12:31 AM a Fayette County Deputy came upon a white 2019 GMC Sierra in the ditch at Highway 3 and County Road W33.  Upon investigation it was determined 35 year old Matthew Richard Swenson of Clermont was driving the truck south on County Road W33.  When Swenson approached the intersection of Highway 3 he lost control of the vehicle, struck and damaged a stop sign, continued across Highway 3 and entered the ditch.  Swenson was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated 2nd offense, Public Intoxication, and several traffic violations.  Damages to the truck and stop sign are estimated to be approximately $3,000.  Swenson was held at the Fayette County Jail until released by a magistrate.

On 3-10-19, at approximately 5:00 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls of a 3 vehicle accident  near the intersection of Nature Rd. and Lincoln Rd.   Fayette County Sheriff's Deputy arrived on scene and conducted an investigation.   Investigation showed that 2 vehicles were south bound on Lincoln Rd,  when a 3rd vehicle failed to slow down, and collided with multiple vehicles.   Phyllis Fosaan, 73 of West Union was south bound on Lincoln Rd., Jessica Lynn Jepsen-Rupp, 26 of Decorah, also southbound on Lincoln Rd.  Information provided, stated said vehicles were slowing/stopping  and a 3rd vehicle, Anthony Gordon Williams, 21 of Victoria MN, had lost control due to road conditions and collided with Jepsen Rupp's vehicle, causing a 3 vehicle collision.  4 individuals sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Palmer Emergency in West Union.  Damage to Williams' 2011 Chevy Equinox and Jepsen-Rupp's 2018 Ford Fiesta were both considered a total loss.  Damage to Fosaaen's 2009 Chevy Impala was estimated at $1,500.  Williams was cited for Following to Closely, a simple misdemeanor. Fayette County sheriff's Office was assisted by West Union Fire, Gunderson and Postville Ambulance Services.
