On December 31st, 2018 at approximately 15:44 hours Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the area of Nature and Pilot Road in reference to a single vehicle rollover accident with entrapment. Upon conducting an investigation, it was discovered that Norbert Kuennen age, 88 of Saint Lucas was traveling Eastbound when his 2005 Mercury Mariner loss traction, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and travel into the north ditch. The vehicle traveled a significant distance before it rolled and landed upside down, trapping Kuennen in the vehicle. Emergency crews were able to free Kuennen who was then transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union and then on to Allen Hospital in Waterloo with serious injuries. The 2005 Mercury Mariner was deemed a total loss. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Waucoma Fire, Saint Lucas Fire, West Union Fire, and Tri-State Ambulance. The incident remains under investigation.

On December 31st, 2018 at approximately 3:18 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a vehicle in the ditch in the Volga River Recreation Area. Upon arrival Deputies located a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse pinned between the banks of the creek. The owner Jie Teng age, 23 of Fayette was also located inside the vehicle and appeared to be trapped. Upon arrival of additional emergency crews Jie was safely removed from his vehicle with minor injuries. The 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse was deemed a total loss. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Fayette Ambulance and Fire. The incident remains under investigation.

On December 31, 2018 the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to 13706 230th St. West Union for suspicious activity on the property.  Upon investigation, it was learned that 21 year old Taylor Jon Bucheit was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, enhanced to a Class D Felony for having 2 or more prior convictions, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.  He was arrested and taken to the Fayette County Jail where he awaits an initial appearance in court.  This incident remains under investigation and further charges are pending.

 

On December 31st, 2018 at approximately 1:50 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of vehicle in the ditch near the area of Klock and Lincoln Road. Upon arrival it was discovered that Steve Post age, 58 was traveling southbound when he lost traction causing his 2001 Ford Taurus to travel into the West ditch. No injuries were reported and minimal damage was sustained. The incident remains under investigation.  (photo)

 

On December 31st, 2018 at approximately 5:12 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch near 70th St. and C Avenue. Upon arrival it was discovered that James Chapman age, 25 of Dubuque had lost control causing his vehicle to travel off the roadway and into the ditch.. No injuries or damage were reported to his 2006 Ford F250 . Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assited by the Arlington Fire Department.  The incident remains under investigation.
