Sheriff Dale McCullick Reports:

On October 24, 2018, at approximately 11:30pm, the Crawford County Communications Center received a report of a one-vehicle rollover on Old Gays Road, approximately three-quarters of a mile west of State Highway 171, in the village of Gays Mills.

Eric S. Heisz, 32, of Stoddard, WI was operating a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck westbound on Old Gays Road when his vehicle went off the roadway, up an embankment and overturned onto the passenger side. Heisz was able to exit the vehicle and walk to a residence to report the crash. A deputy made contact with Heisz who stated the crash occurred as a result of him looking down at his phone while driving. The investigating deputy observed signs of alcohol-related impairment and asked Heisz to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Based on the results of those tests, Heisz was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and issued a citation for inattentive driving. Heisz was transported to the Crawford County Jail for booking.

Heisz was not wearing a seatbelt. He was injured in the crash but refused medical treatment.

Fry's Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.
