On September 26, 2018 at approx. 6:45 AM Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a 1 vehicle accident with injuries on Cedar Rd. just south on Elgin.  Once Deputies arrived on scene it was learned that Jordan Kline 18, of Elkader was north bound on Cedar Rd in his 2001 Dodge Stratus when he failed to negotiate a corner, left the roadway and entered a wooded area to the west.  Kline’s vehicle rolled several times and came to rest on the driver’s side.  Kline was able to free himself from his vehicle and call for help.  Kline was transported to Central Community Hospital in Elkader by Tri-State EMS.  The vehicle is considered a total loss.  The accident remains under investigation.  Fayette County Deputies where assisted on scene by Elgin Fire Department and Tri-State EMS. On September 26, 2018, at approximately 2:43 AM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car vs deer accident on Golden Road in the 7000 block approximately 3 miles east of West Union. Upon investigation, it was learned that Kurt Anthony Stammeyer, age 53 of Elgin, was driving a Red 2006 Chevrolet Equinox LT when he struck a deer in the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was considered a total loss. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the West Union Fire Department.


On 9/25/18 at 6:27 PM the Fayette County Sheriff's Office took a report of a two vehicle accident with injuries on N Ave. north of 240th St. An investigation determined that Weston Frederick Fantz age 18 from Fayette was operating a 2002 Mercury Sable southbound on N Ave. when he attempted to make a 3 point turn on N Ave. while a northbound 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix operated by a 17 yr old male from Elgin crested the hill and could not avoid striking the Mercury in the middle of the roadway. Both vehicle collided in the roadway. The Grand Prix entered the east ditch and rolled several times injuring two juvenile passengers who were transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union by private vehicle . Fantz was cited for making an illegal u-turn. Both vehicles are considered a total loss. 7 other passengers between the two vehicles were not injured.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Tri State Ambulance and West Union Fire Dept.
