On September 8, 2018 at approximately 2:24am a Grant County Deputy was dispatched to a report of a large amount of hay in the roadway on Hwy 151 northbound near Eagle Point Rd, located in the Township of Jamestown. At 2:45 a.m., a Grant County Deputy was able to locate the debris in the road parking the squad care in the left lane with all of its emergency lights activated while the Deputy removed the debris from the lane of travel. At approximately 2:49am, Paige Rice, age 28 from rural Platteville, was traveling northbound on Hwy 151 in her 2002 Honda Accord when she struck the rear of the Grant County squad. Rice then veered into the median where the Deputy has been walking back to his squad car. The Deputy had to dive into the wooded median to avoid getting struck by Rice's vehicle. The Grant County Deputy was transported to Southwest Health Center via Dickeyville EMS for minor injuries sustained during the crash. After a brief investigation it was discovered that Rice was under the influence of intoxicants and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury. Rice was transported to The Grant County Jail where she is being held on a $500 cash bond. Rice was not injured in the crash. Rice's vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and the Grant County squad sustained heavy rear end damages. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Donnie's Tire and Towing of Dickeyville. The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted in this matter by the Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown First Responders, Dickeyville EMS, Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office, the East Dubuque Police Department, and Donnie's Tire and Tow of Dickeyville.
